Enoch’s pre-departure blog 6/14

We’re heading out tomorrow, but I’ve barely started packing. I’m still finishing work for other classes from this past semester, so I may pull an all-nighter to make sure I get all of my work done and have time to fully pack. This may turn out to be a genius move by allowing me (or more accurately forcing me) to pass out for most of the flight time, or conversely, it could make the nightmare of trying to navigate the airport and then spending the entire night confined to a single seat exponentially worse. We’ll see…

The only thing I’m nervous about for this trip is the flight. Sitting still in one spot and focusing on one thing for hours are both nearly impossible for me so it’s a mystery to me how that will go. I’ve avoided leaving the country for my entire life because of this, but I figure that at this point it’s a bad reason to limit myself and I should just deal with it. I may download a bunch of movies and see how far that gets me, but I’m guessing I’ll mostly just listen to music and try to zone out.

But flying aside – I’m really excited for the course, because I’m double majoring in biosciences (ecology + evolutionary biology) and anthropology (archaeology) specifically due to my interest in human evolution. I’m looking forward to it as a chance to see if it’s something I could actually see myself doing as a career.
