Isabella’s Blog: Day1 (6/15-6/17)

The first day was a travel day where we traveled around 46 hours. This included an hour bus ride to IAH from Rice, a 12 hour flight to Istanbul Turkey, a 7 hour flight to Kenya, and a 6 hour drive to Tanzania.

The Istanbul airport was very large and had what seemed to be an entire mall inside of it. It even had an art exhibit. In Kenya we went through customs which did not take long, and during breakfast at the airport is when we first starting seeing African wildlife in the form of birds. Around 3 minutes into our drive to Tanzania we saw a giraffe which was very cool.

Once we got to the boarder of Tanzania and Kenya, we had to depart from Kenya and immigrate into Tanzania. This took over an hour and was a very slow process. Finally, we were able to continue on our way to Tanzania and we stopped at a local mall to grab lunch. There were a bunch of children at this mall and everyone had the day off to celebrate Eid Mubarak. After lunch we went on the final leg of our trip and drove around 2 hours to the Ecoscience Lodge. On the way to the lodge we were able to see domesticated cattle on the side of the road that were typically accompanied with a Shepard. Domesticated cattle are a species of Bovins.

This lodge has very nice accommodations, they even had mango juice and a hand towel when we first arrived. We ended the day with a nice three course meal and the ability to sleep horizontally with no screaming children.
